Caroline Laguerre-Brown,
Director Compliance & Education in the Office Institutional Equity,
is responsible for the investigation and
resolution of discrimination complaints received from faculty,
staff, and students at
Johns Hopkins University. In addition, Ms.
Laguerre-Brown provides
mediation services for University related issues, as well as,
education/training on sexual harassment.

What is Mediation? |
Mediation is a
voluntary, confidential process in which a neutral third person
(mediator) facilitates communication between disputing parties to try to
assist them in reaching a resolution.

Who is the Mediator? |
An impartial party who
does not have any vested interest in the outcome of the mediation
meeting.
A facilitator who does
not act like a judge and does not offer suggestions or render decisions
about the merits of a case.

facilitative and transformative/social justice mediation models.

How much does mediation cost? |
It is
FREE and available to all faculty, staff and students.

Where are Mediations
held and how long do they take? |
Mediations are held in the Office of Institutional Equity (Homewood
Campus), but may be scheduled at other JHU sites in the Baltimore/
Washington area.
The length of time varies for mediation. (Normal length of time is
2-3hours.)

What is a Mediation Agreement? |
A written agreement between both parties and the
Office of Institutional Equity that reflects
their own resolution to the complaint. Participants are encouraged to be
creative in developing the details o their own resolution to the
complaint.
