Caroline Laguerre-Brown,
Director for Equity Compliance &
Education in the Office of Institutional Equity, is responsible for the investigation and
resolution of discrimination complaints received from faculty,
staff, and students at
Johns Hopkins University. In addition, Ms. Laguerre-Brown provides
mediation services for University related issues, as well as,
education/training on sexual harassment.

What is Mediation? |
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential
process in which a neutral third person (mediator) facilitates
communication between disputing parties to try to assist them in reaching
a resolution.

Who is the Mediator? |
An impartial party who does not have
any vested interest in the outcome of the mediation meeting.
A facilitator who does not act like a
judge and does not offer
suggestions or render decisions about the merits of a case.

How much does mediation cost? |
It is FREE and
available to all faculty, staff and students.

Where are Mediations held and how long
do they take? |
Mediations are held in the Office of Institutional Equity (Homewood Campus),
but may be scheduled at other JHU sites in the Baltimore/ Washington area.
The length of time varies for mediation. (Normal length of time is
2-3hours.)

What is a Mediation Agreement? |
A written agreement between both parties and the Office of
Institutional Equity that reflects their own
resolution to the complaint. Participants are encouraged to be creative in
developing the details o their own resolution to the complaint.
